We are recruiting an Upper School Humanities Teacher

Written by The Acorn School

We are currently recruiting a full or part-time Upper School Humanities Teacher for our school in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire.

The Acorn School is a small independent school that provides a well-rounded education to girls and boys aged 6-18. Based in the heart of the Cotswolds, the school offers a unique alternative to mainstream education and features a holistic ethos and approach. Our curriculum aims to cultivate each child’s individual qualities and to support them in their development as they become confident, freethinking young people.

At 14 years of age, students move into the Upper School where they meet a more academic curriculum. The practical and creative education of the Lower School has provided students with the fertile ground required to cultivate genuine enthusiasm for learning and an ability to embrace and explore new and intellectually demanding subjects in depth from a variety of angles. As the Humanities Teacher, you will understand and support the school’s ethos and its unique approach to education, and you will have the skills and passion to work creatively with students to support their development from both a personal and educational perspective.

For further details about the role of the Humanities Teacher, you are invited to contact James Whiting on 01453 836508 for an informal discussion.

Professional skills and qualities we are looking for:

• Degree level education in a humanities subject. PGCE is not essential.
• Previous teaching experience is preferable but not essential.
• Committed and personable approach
• Genuine interest in alternative education and the school’s unique methods
• Willingness to get involved in the school community
• Flexible and open-minded outlook

Applicants will need to provide three recent references and be able to attend any interviews at the school, as required. Hours and pay are negotiable.

Please apply in writing with a copy of your CV. Applications can be posted to the school or e-mailed to James Whiting at info@theacornschool.com.
